Whose Truth Can We Trust?

Walking in the Truth

Today's Scripture

"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance:  that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures . . . " 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 [emphases added]

Today's Devotional Thoughts

In this passage, St. Paul is writing to the church at Corinth--& he is writing to Christians all over the world of all times & places, including you & me today. * When he writes, "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures," he is saying that it is the Scriptures [the Bible] & not he, St. Paul, that are to be believed & trusted.
* Not sure whether you are a Bible-believing Christian or not? That's OK. These words in the Bible were & are intended for you, too!

And when he writes, "He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," likewise he is saying that it is the Scriptures [the Bible], & not he, St. Paul, that are to be believed & trusted. St. Paul is passing along what He has been inspired to write by God the Holy Spirit.

We place our faith in God's Truth as found in God's Holy Word. Not that St. Paul wasn't inspired by the Holy Spirit to write God's Truth. [See Bible passage below.] It's just that man's word or man's truth in & of itself can never be holy or trustworthy. After all, we are by nature not infallible, trustworthy people. *
* Case in point. Looking at both former & current candidates for POTUS, was/is/can anyone's promises be considered completely trustworthy? While some campaign promises are kept, you have to admit that no one is proven to be 100% trustworthy.

Only God's Word can be the Truth, because only God is Holy. The source of our Truth is the absolute source of the absolute Truth. Your faith--our faith--the faith of all believers in Jesus Christ is the faith passed down from generation to generation, found in God's Holy Word.

When our teachers, pastors, parents, friends, and/or other believers--whoever or whatever--pass along God's Truth from God's Word to us, you can know that you are hearing, reading & learning the Truth.

What does this mean? [Or as Lutherans like to abbreviate, WDTM?], you have been given a way to test their truth. As you read the Bible, search the Scriptures, become increasingly knowledgable about God's Word, & pray that His Word is opened to Your heart & mind, you are given the ability by God's Holy Spirit to know the Truth, the whole Truth, & nothing but the Truth. [SEE 2 Peter 1:16-21.]

Today's Prayer Thought

Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to work in your heart & mind that your faith may grow in your understanding of God's Word found in the Bible.
