Meditation for WED of Holy Week

Discipling Part II:  Teaching *

(Jesus said), "Therefore go & make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father & of the Son & of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matthew 28:19, 20b

"The level of learning is deep. Jesus doesn't say that we should just know His teachings. He says that disciple need to obey His ways. The Lord wants His learners to be people of faith who grow in ability to battle anxiety & fear--who grow in caring for others, even our enemies.

"It's easy to see that disciples of Jesus keep learning all the time, even while we are teaching other disciples. We don't graduate from the school of discipleship in this world--only when He takes us to be with Him in glory."

MY MEDITATION

[Once again I'm taking a break from using Martin Luther as an "inspiration" for my meditation.]

I am an unabashed proponent of Christian schools. It seems to me that in these days of so many cultural dangers that our children & grand-children are exposed to, entrusting our kids to faculty & staff who care not only about their academic & physical education but about their spiritual welfare as well, makes absolute sense.

Having said that, let me also say this. Parents have the first, foremost, & ultimate responsibility for "bringing up their children in the nurture & admonition of the Lord." Nothing can take the place of the lessons our children & grand-children are taught in the home. These truths are the bedrock of Christian education, & they are "caught" as much as "taught."

A Hymn of Christian Education **

"Lord Jesus Christ, the children's friend, to each of them Your presence send; call them by name & keep them true in loving faith, dear Lord, to You.

"In Christian homes, Lord, let them be Your blessing to their family. Let Christian schools Your work extend in living truth as You intend.

"That caring parents, gracious Lord, and faithful teachers find reward in leading these, to whom You call, to find in Christ their all in all."
