LICENSE PLATES
Some of you know that Lois & I "collect license" plates. I neglected to mention that on our trip to CA last month we spotted Nevada & Utah in Sequoia National Park & Montana in Kingsburg. Only one state to go--Hawaii--which could be a challenge . . . but it's only April.

THE CONSTITUTION
"When Christians met in each other's homes for prayer or Bible study, they had to be careful. Such gatherings were illegal, and the organizers never knew who might inform the authorities. Although that sounds like a scene from the Soviet Union, it actually describes the situation in California under COVID-19 regulations that the Supreme Court blocked last Friday. By issuing an injunction against Gov. Gavin Newsom's restrictions, the Court reaffirmed that politicians must comply with the Constitution when they decide how to deal with an epidemic." Jacob Sullum, Townhall
ORGANIZED RELIGION
"(Ben) Franklin said that true religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness. As he put it, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” Franklin didn’t often participate in church services himself, but he saw the benefits to society of citizens doing their best to practice and live virtuous lives and to demand virtue in their government leaders. I’m not saying that you have to embrace a traditional religion to be virtuous or to understand the meaning and purpose of life. But half a century later I can still see the value and order that religion has imparted on our republic throughout our history. Tom Purcell, Townhall, 4/13
