Frightful Friday
A Hip Update
- On WED 4/6, I drove my car for the first time since before my surgery, running several modest errands & trying not to overdo it. (1) I deposited a check @ the bank, using the drive-up window. (2) I went to the post office, since I had some documents that needed to get into the mail; one set in particular that needed to get to its destination ASAP. (3) I treated myself to 2 breakfast burritos @ McD's in celebration.*
- My WED jaunt went so well that I took a 2nd jaunt on THU 4/7. This time my meanderings took me to: (1) My tax accountant; (2) Once again to the drive-up window to cash a check at the bank; (2) Wal-Mart to pick up some supplies **; (3) Hy-Vee, where there's a friendly smile in every aisle [It's true!]; to pick up groceries & additional supplies; ***
- I made an appt to drive to Wayne this next TUE to see my therapist for the first time since before my surgery.
- I am feeling much more positive about a road trip while Lois is attending the NETA Conference w/her little friends from Christ Lutheran School, APR 21-22.
- During my meanderings today [I'm back to THU 4/7.], I also got in quite a bit of walking at Walmart, Hy-Vee, & their parking lots. This was not without its hazards, due to gale-force winds. Using my cane made me feel just a bit wobbly. My trusty, Yellowstone hiking stick feels much sturdier, & I think I will continue to use it for my walks around my neighborhood. Besides, it makes me feel much more like an outdoors person . . . also manlier.
** Which are none of your business.
*** Ditto.
Another Exclusive Political Scoop!
You Read It Here First on the Leckband Cornhusker State Blog!!
"Sanders Admits "Miracle on Ice" Meltdown:" While many Americans still recall the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" as one of their best sports' memories, one of the leading leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination does not.
"No, in all honesty, I was stunned," Bernie Sanders admitted in an "off-the-record" interview to a largely unknown but increasingly influential presence on the "blogosphere."
"Yes, I know it was a great moment for the USA," continued Sanders," his eyes misting over, as he recalled the heartbreak. The Herb Brooks' coached USA team entered the Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympics as clearly under-matched rivals to the Soviet juggernaut, then pulled off one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history & followed that up with a Gold Medal, bringing joy to millions of American hearts.
Bernie Sanders remembers things differently. "I'm not afraid to admit it," he remembers. "I was there; obviously not sitting on the Soviet side of the ice rink, but wearing a 'RUN RAMPANT RUSSKIES' T-Shirt' under my sweater. My bourgeois friends were jumping up & down, hugging & high-fiving each other. I was sitting in the cheap seats, sobbing, alone with my dark thoughts. If they thought I was overcome with emotion, they were right, but not for the reason they thought."
Sanders went on to say that he had relished the Soviet domination of Olympic hockey, & it took him many years to get over the unprecedented "Miracle on Ice."
"Looking back, my symptoms were not unlike PTS Syndrome," he now claims.
More Political Potpourri
I'm trying to restrict my political musings to my FRIGHTFUL FRIDAY blog because, well, politics--at least for me these days--have become . . .
FRIGHTFUL.
Due to the stressful mental energy & increased level of danger to my various & sundry mood disorders, I'm delegating the heavy lifting--for the most part--to other sources.Re: Both "He-Who-Is-Possibly-Becoming-Slightly-Less-Irrelevant" & "She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named". Link from Youtube.
Re: Ted Cruz. If you don't care for all my rabid, partisan, commentary sources, you probably won't care for this on-line column by Ann Coulter. I found it thought-provoking, & that's all I'll say . . . for now. Link from Drudge Report 4/7.
Re: "He-Who-Appears-To-Be-Living-In-a-Fantasy-World." This is the moniker I'm giving to John Kasich. It's anything but original. I "borrowed" it from an online column from my favorite partisan pundit. Guess who? Follow this link.
Re: "He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named". The Leckband Cornhusker State Blog . . . Fair & Balanced. Follow this link to a column I found on National Review Online. [To be especially fair, I did not bother to read the article.]
A reminder about the difference between a republic-style democracy & a pure-democracy. Another online column from guess who?
