Walking in the Truth
Todays Scripture
"This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet . . ." Matthew 21:4 ** Check out Zechariah 9:9 & Matthew 21: 1-11 for more context. **
** Believe it or not, Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday is frequently used as one of the scripture readings during the Advent worship season. There is a connection between Jesus' triumphant entry on Palm Sunday & our focus on the preparation for our celebration of Jesus' birth, as we look forward to Christmas during the Advent Season; also as we use the Advent season as a time to consider Jesus' 2nd coming & remind ourselves that God's promises are TRUE!
Today's Devotional Thoughts, compliments of Martin Luther *
"The evangelist cites [this prophecy] so that we may see how Christ has come not for the sake of our merit, but for the sake of divine truth. For He was promised long ago before we, to whom He comes, existed. Therefore, just as God promised the Gospel out of pure grace, so He has also fulfilled it to demonstrate His truth--that He keeps what He promises--in order to stir us to build confidently on His promise, for He will fulfill it . . . " [emphases added]Today's Prayer Thoughts
Give thanks for God's grace--His undeserved love for all humankind, including you & me-- that led Him to not only promise the gift of a Savior but to fulfill that promise through the birth of His Son Jesus Christ. Ask that your heart be prepared in a special way to grow in faith during this season of Advent.* Source: Excerpt from Martin Luther Day by Day, , "Dec. 5," published by Concordia Publishing House.
