Today's Scripture
I offered My back to those who beat Me. My cheeks to those who pulled out My beard; I did not hide My face from mocking & spitting. (Isaiah 50:6)Three Thoughts
As we head toward Good Friday, here are some thoughts. The first is from the prophet Isaiah. Hundreds of years before the suffering & death of our Savior, the Old Testament prophet foresaw the beating & humiliation--the brutality suffered by Jesus. The prophetic Word reinforces the sacrifice of our Savior. The second is from Paul's Letter to the Romans, chapter 5:6, "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless Christ died for the ungodly." As we contemplate the death of Jesus, we marvel that the holy, sinless Son of God was willing to lay down His life for the "powerless," the "ungodly."
The third is from Psalms. "You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light." (18:28) "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet & a light unto my path." (119:105) In a time of great testing, the Lord reminds us that He remains with us. How do we know? We spend time in His Word & relish His promises. My encouragement is for you to spend some quiet time in God's Word each day.
Today's Prayer
As we approach Good Friday, Lord, may we always give thanks for Your great sacrifice. Bless our time in Your Word that as our faith is tested, may it be strengthened. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.NOTE: During Holy Week I'm publishing devotions instead of my usual blog topics. I pray that my devotions would glorify God & edify those who read them.
