License Plate Bingo

We finished 2018 four states short:  Hawaii, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Rhode Island. We were 6 states short when we traveled to Washington, DC, in early December, & we had high hopes. We bagged Delaware & West Virginia but that was it for the year.

"Pearls of 'wisdumb' from less-than-stellar students:

• I had a girl in my class ask how long it would take for a submarine to travel from Florida to California...going underneath the country.
• I had a student who wrote an art history paper about 'Leonard Davin Chi.
• I walked into a classroom where the professor was in the midst of an angry lecture on plagiarism because one of his students had turned in an essay that started with: 'In my 25+ years of experience in this field...
• I teach French. I'd given everyone in class a lengthy piece of Frenchhomework. One student put the entire assignment into Google Translate but translated it into Spanish."

Political Potpourri

I fear that the current government shutdown is a harbinger of what the next two years will be like. As usual, both sides' idea of compromise could be summed up like this:  Compromise with us by giving us what we want. Well, that's not a compromise. Here's an idea. Withhold congressional salaries until a true compromise can be reached.
