Politics + Temperatures + Saints +Thought for Today

Political Potpourri

So you want to know what I think about the upcoming mid-term elections? Okay. It looks like Republicans will win the Senate again. The House? It depends on who you read and/or listen to. If Republicans retain their majority in the House, it will not stop the Democrats from hating. If Democrats win a majority in the House, it will not stop the Democrats from hating.

And while I'm at it, it's a shame that these recent incidents--pipe bombs sent to foes of DT & the massacre at the synagogue--devolve into accusations over who is responsible. Democrats are using these incidents to blame the President. Their response is being used to gin up Republicans to turn out for the mid-term elections. It's disingenuous of the Democrats to blame DT for these acts of violence, given their uncivil actions. On the other hand, I wish our President would set an example of civil discourse.

So will I be glad when the mid-terms are over? Doubt it.

Leckband Temp Challenge

A check of wunderground.com at 6:37a (CDT) this morning leads to these ratings.
#1, Norfolk, NE, 30 degrees
#2, TIE, Eagan, MN & Lincoln, NE, 33
#4, Beatrice, NE, 34
#5, Balmiest Leckbands, TIE, Ventura & Garrison, IA, 38

The thrill of finishing #1 is tempered by the realization that their are Leckbands to the north of us who are enjoying temperatures 8 degrees warmer than us.

All Saints

Today, THU 11/1, is celebrated in the Church as All Saints Day. It's a time that leads me to remember the example of my parents, who role-modeled the Christian life for us & who brought us up in the "nurture & admonition of the Lord." I miss them. Though they are in an infinitely better place, I know that they would have loved getting to know our grand-children.

Thought for Today:  ALTOGETHER PURE

“The scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness.” Ps. 45:6

“This is a straight scepter, because Christ’s teaching & the Laws of His kingdom are altogether straight & pure, namely, that we should believe in Christ & love God & our neighbor.”  Martin Luther Psalm by Psalm, Concordia Publishing House, 2017.
