Mental Health Monday

EYE-TUNES + GOD'S WORD + CRIMINAL JUSTICE + CAL THOMAS

Tomorrow I'm having a cataract removed from my right eye. Last month I had my left eye done. The vision in my left eye has improved to the point where I really don't need my glasses to drive. However, I can't read w/o the help of a pair of reading glasses which I got from Wal-mart. [Thank you, Lois, for your suggestion.] And the computer screen has been a big challenge. When I wear my prescription glasses, everything is pretty much a blur. Suffice it to say that the prescription for my left eye has changed dramatically, so I'm looking forward to a new pair of eyeglasses.
I can't say that I'm all that concerned about tomorrow's procedure. The procedure on my left eye took about 45 minutes. I am a little anxious about my ability to read following this procedure, but I'm hoping that the reading glasses do the trick.
By the way, even though I'm a little anxious about tomorrow's procedure, there is a difference between this kind of anxiety & a general anxiety disorder. The disorder produces anxiety that disrupts the normal course of the day & makes it difficult to relax at bedtime. I can say that for the most part my anxiety disorder is under control these days. I attribute this to prayer, daily quiet time with the Lord, medication, therapy, self-therapy, such as cardiac maintenance & writing.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY:  THUNDER AND LIGHTNING

“The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.”  Ps. 29:8

“But that is the way God’s Word proceeds. It hammers the great & mighty mountains with its thunder & lightning & storms, so that they smoke. It shatters everything that is great & proud & disobedient, as Psalm 29 says. But on the other hand, it is also like a fruitful rain, sprinkling & moistening, planting & strengthening whatever is like the poor, parched plants that are weak & sickly.”  Martin Luther Psalm by Psalm, Concordia Publishing House, 2017.

DEPT. OF SHAMELESS JOKE-STEALING

From Reader's Digest (June 2018)?
  • "I've just reset my password to Delicate Luggage Handler, as I was told it had to be case sensitive."
  • "Glad my car insurance company requires a ten-character password to log in. Wouldn't want someone to hack in and...pay my insurance bill."

Political Potpourri

From column by Rich Lowry in Norfolk Daily News (9/11):  "The U.S. criminal justice system is obviously a legitimate topic of debate. The war on drugs has been a blunderbuss mistake, & we should be reconsidering how many people we jail, & how we do it & why. But the contention that U.S. law enforcement is a product of racial hatred is a paranoid lie, from top to bottom, from beginning to end, from front to back."

Wit & Wisdom of Cal Thomas *
* One of my two most favorite partisan pundit

From column in NDN (8/13):  "The Islamic Saudi Academy in Fairfax, VA, closed in 2016, replaced that year by the King Abdullah Academy. The former taught that adulterers & converts from Islam should be killed & that 'The Jews conspired against Islam & its people.' Why are Islamic schools that teach this stuff & the mosques that support them allowed to remain open?"
