Cheese on Pie? + Sister Bash Countdown + Cal Thomas + Road Trips & Company + Thank You
Food for Thought
Omaha World Herald (6/13): "Is cheese on apple pie just right or just wrong? Debate over dessert 'topping' divisive for some Midwesterners. Everything is better with cheddar, right? You know, like burgers, grilled cheese & nachos. Apparently, that's how some Midwesterners enjoy their pie--because why top it with vanilla ice cream when you can have cheese?" COMMENT: I have never witnessed this culinary atrocity, nor have I indulged in it myself. This must be referring to Iowanians.Countdown Continues
According to my calculations, 24 days remain until the Summer 2018 Hill Sister Bash at David & Carmen's Chalet, located on picturesque Little Island Lake near Nevis, MN. Sisters, don't forget to pack mosquito [the MN state bird] & tick spray.

Norfolk Daily News (6/16), "Clintons' 'bitterness' tour goes on: "Like a boxer who doesn't know when to leave the ring, HC is a 2-time political loser who hasn't gotten the message that she is unlikeable & unelectable. She would do herself & the country (not to mention the Democratic Party) a favor by retiring & leaving the scene of her political accident. There is still money to be made, however, & to the Clintons money is their catnip." COMMENT: "Money is their catnip." That just cracks me up.

"OWH (6/16): "What does God look like? It depends on who is asked. We know know what God might look like--or at least what a group of extremely brave psychologists are suggesting, based on research at the UNC at Chapel Hill. Among the team's many conclusions: Liberals & conservatives see God differently...a lot differently . . . Liberals imagined God as 'more feminine, younger & more loving,' while conservatives have a white guy in mind who was 'more powerful,' said the researchers . . . " COMMENT: We know that God was German. How? When God was looking for Adam in the Garden of Eden, He said, "Adam, wo bist du?" *

Welcome
- This coming weekend we're hosting family who will be in town for our grandson Bentley's 5th birthday party on SAT 6/23. Nathan, Laura, & Calvin will be staying with us; also Craig & Sarah & the girls. It feels like a family reunion!
- On SAT 6/30, we will be hosting David (Lois' little brother), Carmen (his esteemed spouse & my 1st cousin), & my Aunt Mable, who will be in transit from Texas to the serenity of Little Island Lake near Nevis, MN. I'm hoping that the Worley's can join us for a cook-out that evening, followed by Big Bang Boom, the most awesome fireworks display in the upper Midwest, later that evening.
Road Trips
- I'm not sure this qualifies as a road trip, because I'm not traveling out-of-town, but I will be representing Orphan Grain Train at the LWML * Nebraska District North Convention at LHNE this FRI-SAT, 6/22-23.
* Lutheran Women's Missionary League
- On SUN 6/24, Lois & I will be traveling to Garrison, IA [motto: the "village time forgot"], to visit my brother Mark & his esteemed spouse Christy.
Thought for Today: God's stars are grateful
"In fact, if you take a careful look around, you will see that your life has been filled with blessings from God. Blessings are God's interventions in your life to make it better. Your friends, education, government, rainfall, food & family are all gifts. They are signs that God loves you.
"The antidote for self-pity & bitterness? How about St. Paul's prescription: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5:16-18)
"Thankful stars figure out cause & effect in their lives. They look at their happy moments & notice more & more the fingerprints of God all over them." [From Shine Like Stars, Time of Grace, Pastor Mark Jeske]
COMMENT: To follow up on my post last MON, I am grateful for all of you who took the time to respond with words of encouragement. I needed that. I hope that I didn't come off as self-serving, looking for cheap sympathy. I was touched & humbled by the outpouring of support. Thank you. The "Thought for Today" was also encouragement, for which I am grateful.
