Bash Update + Breaking Food News + My Shameless Opinions + Jesus in the Workplace
Sister Bash 2018
The countdown continues for the Summer 2018 Hill Sister Bash, hosted at David & Carmen's chalet on picturesque Little Island Lake near Nevis, MN. According to my calculations, only 38 days remain. That should leave plenty of time to stock up on fou-fou coffee. (I, the first mate to Skipper David, will bring a supply of dark roast coffee) & a supply of wine. Based on previous soiree's, if each sister brings 8 bottles of wine, that should just about do it.Food for Thought
Reader's Digest (May 2018): "12 Foods with Extra Healing Power. You might know that the fiber in apples & broccoli helps ward off diabetes & heart disease, that the anti-oxidants in berries have anticancer powers, & that the protein in lean meat builds muscle. But did you know that flax seeds can reduce hot flashes? Or that pumpkins are one of the foods tolerated by Crohn's sufferers? Here are 12 more foods that are even healthier than you knew.- Asparagus for high blood pressure MY ADVICE? Avoid food that grows in ditches.
- Tea for infections
- Pork for energy
- Onions for lung cancer
- Cheese for dental health
- Lemons & limes for kidney stones
- Apricots for eye health
- Bananas for depression & anxiety COMMENT: I eat a banana most mornings along with my oatmeal. Bananas are cheaper than anti-depressants, but I can't convince my Medicare Supplement provider to reimburse me for them.
- Mustard for good bones
- Bran for diverticulitis
- Papayas for arthritis
- Beets for a better brain COMMENT: I hate beets. This could explain a lot.
Political Potpourri
Omaha World Herald (6/6): "President accuses Eagles players of abandoning fans as White House hosts 'patriotism' event." COMMENT: In case you didn't know, DT cancelled the traditional White House visit by the Super Bowl champions, due to an anticipated poor attendance because of his stand re: FB players refusing to stand for the National Anthem. He held a patriotism event instead, & he is being roundly criticized for his actions. Since this is my blog, I get to share my opinion. Why, it's a matter of free speech, right?
- NFL owners have a right to demand that players--their employees--stand for the National Anthem.
- The NFL has a right to insist that players stand for the National Anthem, while encouraging protesters to keep their protests in the locker rooms.
- Players have the right to protest by refusing to take the field for the national anthem.
- Fans have a right to tune out FB games because of what is perceived as being an insult to our country & those who have given their lives in order for multi-millionaire players to choose to protest the National Anthem.
- NFL TV viewing took a hit. Is that a coincidence? I'd say that most fans tune in to the games to see FB, not political protests.
- The President has the right to cancel any traditional visits to the White House, including visits by FB players or anyone else who chooses to insult the flag.

OWH (6/5): "Proposal would clarify teacher-student boundaries. Staff could be disciplined for texting, giving personal gifts, excessive touching, telling dirty jokes & more." COMMENT: Seriously? Teachers & staff have to be told that telling dirty jokes could result in discipline?! For crying out loud! Seriously, I have mixed feelings about prohibiting texting, since I've known teachers who exchanged texts w/students in order to clarify assignments or provide feedback re: research papers. However, speaking as a former administrator, I have to say that in today's climate it's much too risky for teachers to exchange texts w/students. Texting can also breed a familiarity with teachers that is not healthy for students, regardless of the intentions. There are plenty of other ways to provide feedback.

“The workplace is a place to see Jesus in those who surround
us. It is the place also to see that what happens in our workplace affects
those beyond it, those in whom we are told to see Jesus & for whom Jesus
died.” At the Crossroads: Devotions for Lent, by David Kehret, Creative Communications for the
