THU Edition of Whimsical WED

No Place Like Nebraska + Mayochup + Government Spying + Wit & Wisdom

There Is No Place Like Nebraska

Yesterday morning (WED 4/18) we woke up to 2-3" of snow on the driveway, deck, front & backyards. And it snowed all morning. How delightful it was to see more pictures of the beach, posted by my cousin, who shall remain nameless. *
* It was Carmen.

Summer 2018 Hill Sister Bash Update

Just 86 more days until the opening ceremonies at David & Carmen's Chalet on beautiful Little Island Lake near Nevis, MN.

Food for Thought

From USA Today (4/13):  "Mayochup--Yuck or the Next Big Food Thing? Food giant Heinz is allowing consumers to vote on whether Mayochup--the premade blend of mayonnaise & ketchup in one container--should be sold in the U.S. Consumers can vote in a Twitter poll through SUN. If the poll gets 500,000 yes votes, Americans will have a chance to chow down on Mayochup, currently available only in some Middle East Gulf States." COMMENT:  This explains a lot about Middle East politics.

Dept. of Shameless Joke Stealing

From Norfolk Daily News "late laughs" (4/13):  "A new poll has found that a majority of Americans believe the government is spying on them. 'No, we're not!' said your microwave." (Late Night w/Seth Meyers)

Criminal Minds

From USA Today (4/13):

  • "A judge (in Oklahoma) who approved probation for a man who admitted to raping a 13-year-old girl at a church camp is seeking four more years on the bench. COMMENT:  This judge deserves 4 more years all right, but not on the bench.
  • "Police (in Philadelphia say they arrested a 12-year-old boy who was walking down a street w/a loaded AR-15 rifle. No charges were announced against him." COMMENT:  The 2nd Amendment trumps any local, ill-conceived gun control law.
  • "A restaurant owner (in South Burlington, Vermont) is offering a $100 gift certificate to the person who returns a life-size cardboard cutout of himself that was stolen from an airport." COMMENT:  How does the TSA explain somebody walking out of an airport w/a life-size cutout?

Wit & Wisdom of Cal Thomas

From NDN "How does one define true evil?" (11/1/17):  "Evil co-exists with the good. Each individual must choose which one to embrace or push away. For some, embracing good comes naturally. For others, the pushing away of evil is a lifetime struggle." COMMENT:  Embracing good is only possible for those who have been redeemed by our Savior.

Whimsical WED . . . THU Edition

From NDN (3/17):  "No church for Jesus. Even Father Jesus isn't above the law of man. A Mississippi city has denied a proposal for a church by a man named Father Jesus, saying he failed to have a professional engineer draw up the plans. Jesus said the church he's calling 'Saints of the Most High' wouldn't be very big, & he'd begin w/just 3 member . . . Jesus said he's been diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic, & changed his name to Father Jesus after a revelation that he embodies the spirit of Jesus. Commissioners were more concerned about bldg code compliance." NO COMMENT.

SEEING JESUS

“As you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me.”  Matt. 25:40

“Seeing other people as Jesus is a choice we make. The choice is not based on knowing if they see themselves as Jesus or even if they see Jesus in us. We simply choose to see Jesus in them. In seeing them that way we are able to treat them in ways we otherwise would not.” At the Crossroads: Devotions for Lent, by David Kehret, Creative Communications for the Parish, 2016.
