WED'S WEATHER

"USA records most hurricane-force gusts in single day." Drudge Report, 12/16

It's not often--like maybe never--that we get weather like we did on WED. The day started with a high wind warning. Christ Lutheran, where Bentley our 8-yr-old grandson attends 2nd grade, dismissed at 1:30, due to the weather report. Since his parents were both working, I picked him up. The plan was for me to take him to supper & church, but church was cancelled, also due to the weather report. Soon we found ourselves in a severe T-storm warning & tornado watch. The sirens went off twice, so we spent some time in the basement. The temperature was in the 50s when I left Orphan Grain Train. By the time I went to bed, the temperature had dropped to 27 with a wind chill of 10. Luckily, I glanced outside, because the top of the mailbox had blown into the street. We had gotten some precipitation, & the driveway had glazed over. I slipped & slid my way to the street but had to walk back to the house on the front lawn, because I couldn't navigate the driveway. I know that some of my readers spent time in their basements because of tornado warnings, too. And my heart goes out to those who suffered loss in the tornadoes that swept through Kentucky & other locations.

Her late husband Paul, a veteran of the Marines, is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Kathy & her daughter Jocelyn will be joining with hundreds of other volunteers to lay wreaths on every grave today. And for those who are criticizing this endeavor, all I can say is that I wish you had the same respect for those who served our country.
