SIDEWALK PROPHETS
On Saturday night I was at 1c Sanctuary, a LCMS church in Columbus, for a Sidewalk Prophets' concert. Those guys were awesome! The lead guitarist was way awesome! I even recognized a few of their songs, since we listen to The Message on Sirius XM when we're traveling in our Encore. I've seen in concert Twila Paris, Big Daddy Weave, Lauren Daigle, Casting Crowns, Jordan Feliz, Building 429, & Matt Maher. This concert was among the best.
WHAT I'M READING
I always eagerly anticipate the next book I've chosen to read. My latest read is "Madhouse at the End of the Earth: The Belgica's Journey into the Dark Antarctic Night," by Julian Sancton. It's a narrative of an ill-dated Antarctic expedition. I gave up on "The Gulag Archipelago." It was just too depressing. It was a waste of 50 cents.
WHAT I'M WATCHING
Last night I watched "The Dig," a 2021 movie on Netflix. "On the eve of W.W. II, a British widow hires a self-taught archaeologist [played by Ralph Fiennes] to dig up mysterious formations on her land, leading to a staggering find." This dig was ground-breaking. Get it? Ground-breaking?!
MY LIFE
For those of you who are endlessly fascinated with the details of my life, here's what I did last Friday. I watched Bentley, our 8-yr-old grandson, since Lois is in MN with Nathan, Laura, & the grandkids. We had a grand time . . . well, except for UNO. After decisively defeating him on the first hand, he came back & clocked me on the next three. Then we went to the Norfolk Aquaventure water park--my first visit there--& I was impressed. Bentley must have been tired, because he was only in the water for about an hour. On the way home we stopped at Sonic for slushes & cheese curds. After we got back, we watched Ironman. Later on Friday I made an ill-fated trip to Columbus, having failed to carefully check my calendar, thinking, erroneously, that the Sidewalk Prophets were in concert that night. The trip wasn't a total loss, since I got to eat supper at Pizza Ranch. This morning I'm watching Bentley for a few hours again before going to work at Orphan Grain Train.
ROBOTS GONE WILD
"You call that service? A few years back, the Henn na Hotel in Nagasaki, Japan, hired 243 robots to cover positions ranging fro concierge to bellhop. Unfortunately, the check-in robots had trouble answering guests' questions & photo-copying passport, while bellhop robot kept banging into walls & tripping over curbs. One in-room assistant sprang to attention every time a lodger snored, saying, 'Sorry, I couldn't catch that. Could you repeat your request?' Not long after the experiment began, the hotel 'fired' half of the malfunctioning robots. And they didn't get their tips, either." Reader's Digest, June 2021
DEPT. OF SHAMELESS JOKE-STEALING *
* Compliments of Reader's Digest, June 2021
"My niece wants to know: If she donates her hair, & the recipient of her hair commits a crime & leaves hair at the crime scene, will her DNA be found all over the crime scene & thus incriminate her? She's 12."
SMELL
"Women have keener noses than men, perhaps because they have as many as 50% more cells in the part of the brain that processes smell. Studies have shown that women are better able to identify & distinguish among scents than men." Reader's Digest, June 2021
