FINALLY AT LONG LAST
One of my 2021 New Year's resolutions was to get a DNA history from Ancestry.com. [And, yes, I know this site is managed by the Mormons.] It was one of my unfulfilled resolutions from 2020, too. In January I sent my sample in, but I never heard anything back, despite repeated efforts to obtain them. I decided to try one more time today. I went to the website & submitted my request, but my password was rejected, so I asked to reset my password. This time I was successful. Here are my results:
> 52% Germanic Europe
> 35% England & Northwest Europe
> 8% Sweden
> 3% Norway
> 2% Other regions
Am I surprised? Yes & no. The Leckbands originated in Northwest Germany in the area of Schleswig-Holstein. Over many years this territory swung back & forth between Denmark & Germany. I think that would explain "Northwest Europe." I'm not sure about England. Also not sure about "Sweden" & "Norway."
My maternal grandmother once told me that our family tree from the Handel side of the family included ancestors from Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, & Russia. I think this would explain the "Germanic Europe" results.
She also told me that we might have a little Jewish ancestry, but this is not borne out from these results.
