Cardiac Maintenance
I "graduated" from cardiac rehab a week ago & started cardiac maintenance this week. Basically, you're doing the same workout w/a little less supervision. You only wear a heart monitor once per month, but the staff continues to monitor your BP before you workout, during your workout, & after you're finished. Besides using the same exercise machines, I've added some weights to my routine. And my arms & legs are feeling it, but it's a good feeling.Road Trip
I love road trips, & our first for the "summer" will be to visit Nathan, Laura, & Calvin over Memorial Day weekend. We'll leave on FRI 5/25 & stay until MON 5/28, then travel to visit my uncle who is in an assisted-living facility in Lakefield, MN. Hopefully, we'll get to visit my cousin, too. We're planning to stay overnite in a motel near Lake Okoboji before traveling to visit Mission Central in Mapleton, IA, on TUE 5/29. Lois has never been there.
Fishing Factoids
I realize that the majority of you probably couldn't care less about my fishing log, but I like fishing, it's good self-therapy for me, & it is--after all--my blog.
I made it to Doug's pond twice this past week, including my trip last TUE 5/15, following the 1st grade picnic @ Ta-hazouka. I fished a 2nd time on THU 5/17. Ordinarily I wouldn't fish twice in the same week, but the weather report for the entire next week, beginning FRI 5/18, does not look conducive for fishing.
I fished for a little over an hour on THU, getting my line in the water @ 5:50p. Within a few minutes I had my first hit, but he threw the worm as I was hoisting him up onto the bridge that connects to the island. As I moved clockwise around the pond, I had another 3 fish on the line within that 1st half-hour. The 2nd one broke the snap swivel--something that had never happened to me before. The next two escaped while they were still in the water. I saw both of them but apparently didn't set the hook forcefully enough. (Story of my life)
I moved counterclockwise around the pond to the northeast corner & lost another fish while it was still on the line in the water, so I was getting mildly (greatly!) frustrated w/myself. Then I quickly caught & landed 3 bass within 10 minutes, measuring 14", 13", & 15". So, all-in-all, despite my frustrations, I'd have to call this expedition a mild success. I've been to Doug's 4X so far this spring, & I've caught bass on every trip. Not bad.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: VOCATION
“That our God may make
you worthy of His calling.” 2 Thess. 1:11
“Simple issues like integrity, industry, faithfulness &
honesty in our place of work are matters of baptismal identity. God not only
calls us to be His children but also gives us the place to live that out in
ways that reflect upon Him.” At the Crossroads: Devotions for Lent, by David Kehret, Creative Communications for the
Parish, 2016.
