I told Lois that she needed to embrace her mistakes. She hugged me.

WHAT I'M WATCHING

* We're watching Longmire on Netflix. I watched this series some years back. Lois seems to be enjoying it, although it's loaded with testosterone.

* Lois is out-of-town, so last night I watched "The Dark Knight Rises" & a Brian Regan special on Netflix. He's one of my favorite comedians.

WHAT I'M READING

I've been into travel adventures, which I'm reading on Kindle. I recently finished "Bad Tourist:  Misadventures in Love & Travel," by Suzanna Roberts. A little racy but hard to put down. Now I'm reading "The Wonder Trail:  True Stories from Los Angeles to the End of the World," by Steve Hely.

WHAT I'M LISTENING TO

Lois & I listen to The Message [Christian music] on Sirius radio when we're traveling in her car. We recently watched "Jesus Music," a documentary. If you appreciate Christian music, you should track it down. I'm listening to a Steven Curtis Chapman CD in my car. [Sadly, our Buick Encore doesn't have a CD player. I think we were ripped off.]

FISH

Last night I treated myself to Fish Fry Friday at Jerry's Hilltop Cafe, about 20 miles north of Norfolk. I've treated myself to this before. It's a must for lovers of fried fish.

> Valerian, an herb used historically for the treatment of nervousness & stress.

> Hops, flowers from the plant used to make beer. Beer is good.

> Ashwagandha extract, made from an evergreen shrub that grows in Asia & Africa.

> Chamomile (the German type)

> Passion flower, a climbing vine that has been used as a sedative.

> Melatonin, a hormone in our brain that makes us sleepy. I use this. It helps.

Ways to Help Your Wife without Putting in Too Much Effort

* Rinse a dish & leave it near the sink.

* Avoid the toilet seat debate by peeing in the sink.

* Never shower so she'll have fewer towels to fold.

* Helpfully gather all the dirty clothes & passive-aggressively place them in the washer.

* Leave her helpful instructions on sticky notes around the house so she'll know how to do things properly. I've tried this with Lois when it comes to loading the dishwasher. It doesn't work.

* Say helpful phrases like "My mom didn't do it that way."

* Send her pictures of the messes around the house while she's away so she can mentally prepare for the tasks ahead of her.

* Place all the sandwich ingredients together on the counter to cut own on her lunch-making time.
