ADVENT
"The hope of Advent for all is that God is in the darkness with us, though our experience of God may seem as clear as shifting shadow. Yet God’s coming near to us in the person of Jesus is not hindered by the darkness of this world or of our own lives. We may fear our dark despair hides us from God, but the treasure of God’s presence awaits us even there—for the darkness is as light to God." --Margaret Manning Shull, Slice of Infinity
CELEBRATING THE SAINTS, PART IV
"To remember & give thanks for the saints of old is a reminder & encouragement to love, appreciate & care for the Body of Christ here & now. It would be hypocritical to honor the saints who have gone before us while neglecting & forgetting the saints the Lord has placed beside us. But it need not be a choice between one or the other. As we recognize & rejoice in our connection to all saints in the one Body of Christ, all the more so should we follow the good example of past saints by loving, serving, & caring for our brothers & sisters in Christ in our own place & time. The faith & faithfulness of the departed within their callings & stations in life teaches us to be likewise faithful in our duties & responsibilities on behalf of our neighbors, especially our fellow members of the household & family of God." --Richard Stuckwisch, The Lutheran Witness, Oct. 2019
