Whimsical Wednesday

Dept. of Shameless Joke-Stealing

"The NYPD is looking for a man who recently broke into an Apple store & stole $75,000 worth of products That's crazy--why would anyone need five iPhone cables?" [Late Night with Seth Meyers, "late laughs", Norfolk Daily News 2/1]

Criminal Minds

"Woman arrested for striking boyfriend with frozen pork chop". Drudge Report, 2/5.  Comment: Justifiable "hamicide?"

"Mom pours water over sleeping baby. Authorities said a South Carolina woman has been arrested after a video she posted on social media showed her pouring water on her sleeping 9-month-old daughter as 'payback.'" NDN 2/1

Food for Thought

"Squirrel on menu as diners turn to 'Sustainable meat'. Drudge Report, 2/5

Wednesday Whimsy

"Women's brains 'four years younger' than men's". Drudge Report, 2/5

"PEW:  Actively religious more likely to be 'very happy.'" Drudge Report, 2/6

"Are school districts starting to go soft or playing it safe?" NDN 2/15  Comment:  There are many things I miss about being a school administrator. Among them is NOT making weather-related school decisions. Whenever there was a forecast of possible extreme weather, I started closely following several weather apps the night before--never slept well. I got up very early the next morning, checked the same weather apps & went to the web pages of local radio stations & KTIV tv in Sioux City. Some administrators would get up extra early & take a drive, but I never saw that as being necessary. It would have been nice to simply follow the lead of Norfolk Public Schools, but we had students driving to LHNE from a 20+ mile radius some years. I can remember getting burned at least twice:  once when I called off school & we didn't get the snow that had been forecasted; once when I should have called a late start but didn't. Student started showing up while the parking lot was being plowed, so students & staff had to repeatedly move their vehicles while the lot was cleared. NOTE:  Norfolk schools cancelled last THU because of wind chill readings of -25 & colder. A weather system is supposed to move in late WED, bringing snow & very cold wind chill readings again.
