Last First Day
It's the first day of school at Christ Lutheran in Norfolk. Lois begins her 21st year @ CLS, her 38th year in the teaching ministry of the Church. Since she intends to retire at the end of this school year, it also marks the first day of her last year. This year will be filled with milestones like this. I pray that this will be a memorable day for all the right reasons, & I ask the Lord to bless her, her parents & students in a special way.
Thought for Today
SECOND THOUGHTS
“Nevertheless, not My
will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:42
“Jesus’ response to His Father, ‘Not My will, but Yours, be
done,’ leads the way ahead for us, as His spirit within us provides the courage
to respond in similar fashion.” At the Crossroads: Devotions for Lent,
by David Kehret, Creative Communications for the Parish, 2016.
Political Potpourri
Diversity, Part IV"Any clear-thinking observer, however, can see that compassion is not a sound basis either for foreign policy or immigration policy. Compassion is more likely to lead to contempt than gratitude in both policy areas . . . Fear is more likely to engender respect, whereas love or compassion is more likely to be regarded as a contemptible sign of weakness . . . Republicans & Democrats alike are reluctant to consider serious measures to control illegal immigration. Republicans want to continue the steady supply of cheap & exploitable labor, & Democrats want future voters."
From "Does Diversity Really Unite Us? Citizenship & Immigration," by Edward Erler, Imprimus, A Publication of Hillsdale College (July-Aug 2018):
